LittleRefluxers

Hello all - a quick question - does calpol upset reflux/cmpi/allergy dairy/soy (covering all angles as still not really 100% sure). The little man has a bad cold and the calpol seems to be making him worse. If it does not help what can I use instead? He was a wake for 3 hours last night...and then my 2 year old woke bright and early - I am so tired...

Totally melted down on my mum yesterday...

Thanks

My LO seemed to react as well, but that was 4 months ago now and I'm a bit scared to try it again. I know nurofen definitely irritates the stomach for anyone so is steer clear of that too, in my opinion. I'd be interested to know of there's anything else too!
Sorry im not much help :)

Hiya,

My LO has a virus at the mo and i haven't found calpol to have had a bad effect on her. I also give her nurofen but it can irritate the stomach and so i only give it to her on a full stomach!

Have you tried snuffle babe to help unblock his nose? x

Calpol seems to be ok for my LO (he has silent reflux and CMPI) - I havent given it very often but when I have it does seem to settle him.  I guess every baby's different though.  Sorry, thats probably not a huge help.

I think it's ok for cmpi but often a problem for mfpi. Some people find disprol a better option but that's still no good for my LO but he's a very rare case and allergic to almost everything. With him I dissolve a quarter of an adult 500mg paracetomol and syringe it. It's roughly the same as a calpol dose but not as accurate so not generally recommended but is long as you're careful of over-dosing it should be ok. Medinol is another option. It's colour free but still flavoured.

Its worth a try before ruling it out. Cole didn't used to get on with it. It contains quite alot of additives and e numbers. Boots own or the chemists own brands are not only cheaper but contain less of the junk if you would rather use those.

xx

my personal experience with calpol is that different brands and makes of paracetamol for childern react differently with reflux babies

my lo used to tolarate boots paracetamol but they have changed the supplier, and chaning e numbers on it as well, and since then, my lo started reacting to it

i have reverted to original calpol (but use only the small 2momths plus bottles - which apparently have different e numbers than bigger calpol) and my lo is fine with it

worth experimenting

oh, and avoid nurofen (ibuprofen)

Don't you just wish there was a booklet for each child specifying exactly what they can have and can't. Would save them a lot of pain and us a lot of sleepless nights!

We were prescribed suppositories (60mg paracetamol) which worked a treat when my little boy would simply puke up calpol as soon aas it hit his stomach. Much easier in a lot of ways....

hi,
if you think calpol makes things worse, you are probably right. medinol was the biz when it came to teething etc for my first refluxer, she also tolerates nurofen if given on a full stomach. she is still a refluxer at 20 months on 15mg of omeprazole, cmpi, and egg free too, so there is hope. my little boy who is 5 months doesnt tolerate anything that comes in a suspension. with him it seems to be a reaction to the sugars in the suspension, i think due to the fact they are volatile and absorbed high up in the gut. I was prescribed 120mg suppositries for him, but the dose seemed huge for an 11lb baby and the pharmacy didnt have them, his temp was coming down by then so i left it, but my gastro pead said it is the best way to give it to babies with a sensitive gut. Hope that helps. Xx

Paracetomol suppositories were the work of the devil for Douglas, Sara B. Just a warning! He was on his hands and knees rocking backwards and forwards crying and screaming all night. The worst reaction he's ever had to anything. Would never go there again. Maybe something specific to Dougs but my perception was that it was putting something right in the spot where he has the most pain. x

I remember you saying that bev, he was prescribed them but At a HUGE dose,it was a sunday night and the pharmacy didn't have any so I left it. I spoke to the consutant about it and he said in general most babies tolerate it really well.
They all said that to me too! Maybe just a weird Douglas thing but it was horrible. X
