LittleRefluxers

Hi,

I've been doing some research on the internet for treatment for silent/acid reflux and have come across cranial osteopathy for infants. Has anybody tried this and was it successful?

Sorry to apear thick but whats this????????? always thought Cranial was to do with the head. And reflux is to do with the mussle at the base of the food pipe.
Yes I tried it. Belinda Cranial is to do with the head but as everything in the body is linked, they gently manipulate areas of the head and the rest of the body to help calm down the tension from the reflux. Its all linked to the diaphram and they can calm that down. My osteo said my DS was very irritated. He did definitely improve but he also started a new course of meds at the same time so I can't say which one helped. It sort of helped me more than anything because I felt like I was doing something constructive if you know what I mean! I would recommend it for a trial but research your osteo first. Mine came highly recommeded and was honest from the start about whether he could help me so he didn't try to rip me off. We only did 4 sessions - I think I'd need to go almost daily to help with the constipation which is our biggest issue at the moment. Its worth a go I reckon!
Yes I tried it for my son, got an osteopath recommended from friends. She specialised in children (I took my eldest daughter to her when she was a baby for her misshapen head from the birth).

She worked on his body too, and did a lot on his diaphragm and all the tension from the reflux. To be honest I can't say it helped with the reflux but as Clare has said it was helpful for me to feel I was doing something. It did help with his wind problems though! The whole session he would make the loudest farting noises, it was very funny! And he always did a big poo afterwards.

Anyway yes worth a go, give it a few sessions, but don't feel you have to carry on if it's not working. At least you will have tried something.
Thanks guys,

I might give it a go. Everything is worth a go when you're desperate ;-p
We've just started him on neocate yesterday so prob best to wait a week to see how that goes first and then see the osteopath next week.

Thank Clair at least I understand now x
Hi hun - we tried it too and it def made a difference - although we went to see a paedeatric osteopath not a cranial one who works on the whole body and he worked on the digestive system over the tummy etc and she slept 12 hours stright when we got home

Two sessions and she never went back to being as bad as before!!!
Sounds good. Have just typed paediatric osteopath in Birmingham into google but couldn't really find anything. How did you find yours?

I am a huge fan of osteopaths, mine is fab I visit one myself as I have had whiplash in the past and two huge babies!! My guy was at the same practice but specialises in children, plus the guy who owns the practice is a tutor for the British Association of Osteopathy. He was the one who kept me sane when the medical profession would not listen and definately made his reflux more bearable plus he could tell me how much irritation there was so at least I felt I had some information to work on.

If you want a recommendation then pm me where you are and I will ask at my practice for someone they would recommend in the area.

Hi Wendy,

That sounds great. I live in between Walsall and Birmingham so someone in those kind of areas would be good if he knows anybody?

Thanks for your help :)
