Another update on Morgan...

Well the appointment went ok, but we didn't really get any "answers" as such.

Basically, her Barium Swallow/Meal and stool sample were completely normal.

Most of her blood tests were normal too (including the Coeliac screen) apart from her White Blood Cell count indicated an infection (???!!!???) and her Ferritin (Iron) level was way, way down. Apparently, normal range is 14-29 and her's is only 5!!!!

So first of all, she's been prescribed Sytron - it's like a liquid form of iron tablets - once a day and the consultant said she will probably have to take that until she's at least 2 years old?!!!

Then with regard to the crazy coughing/choking fits... She's not convinced that it's a reflux issue (because of the negative Barium Meal, although even she admits that can't rule it out completely!!) and thinks she may have had a viral chest infection..... erm.... HELLO?!! Don't you think we'd have noticed that??? Besides, we took her to the GP twice about the cough, two weeks apart, and both times her chest has been clear!?! Anyhoo, she's prescribed an Asthma medication (Singulair Granules) which she has to take every evening.

The consultant then went on to say that obviously the Barium Meal cannot trule out reflux completely as it's only a 10-minute snapshot of how Moo is. So she's arranging for her to have a 24-hr pH study done. We should hopefully have the appointment through within two weeks and consultant will see us again in about 4 weeks.

So who knows what will happen. This asthma medication may help and we could find it isn't a reflux issue after all. Or it may do diddly squat. We're to continue her Gaviscon and Ranitidine until we see her again too.

Don't get me wrong, we're glad that she's having normal test results, but at the same time we're no closer to a proper diagnosis or treatment for her... we'll just keep taking each day as it comes!


And PS.... The Paed STILL doesn't want to try a PPI yet!!!
