LittleRefluxers

Hi everyone

I just wanted to send a positive note to everyone who is going through, or has been through the hellish rollercoaster that is reflux.

My little girl is now thirteen months and suffered terribly with silent reflux (she screamed for the first five months of her life).

Update is, she is still on a high dose of meds, which we are currently trying to reduce, but thankfully I have not seen any signs of reflux in months.

She is a very determined, little girl, who does now throw the occassional temper tantrum, but honestly, when I think back to the 16 hour days of pacing the floor while she screamed in my arms, I'm actually grateful for temper tantrums.

She is now a happy, giggly little girl, and when I look at her, I'm so proud of her, and the reflux genuinely doesn't seem to have left any lasting damage with her.

For all you mums who are going through this now I cry when I read your messages, It enrages me that there are still so many little babies going through this, there has got to be more that can be done.  But please be assured that it does end, they do get better.

Good luck to you all and I hope you're lo's pass this horrible thing quickly

xx

Thanks Susie

She's still having moments, but I really think now it's behavioural.  How's Abbey doing?  xx

Hi Lara

So pleased to hear Nicole doing so well. I hope you manage to get her off the meds soon x
Thats great to hear Lara, I remember telling you months ago that you would 'get there!'  Good luck reducing the meds, we are  trying to get Harry off the 10mg of omep.  What meds is Nicole on?

hi lara

so lovely to hear that there is hope ! so glad nicole is happy and pain-free

sarahx

Thank you for giving us a sense of hope. It is so frustrating not to be able to do just simple everyday things with my little girl but I just must believe I will be able to - one day!! At how many months was the turning point for Nicole? Would be so intersted to know. My 18 wk old ( came just over 4 weeks early and had a few problems at first) is on lots of meds and I just wish omep was more of a miracle maker for her!

I recall from my elder daughter that Nicole's age is lots of fun and they are so full of beans so glad you are able to enjoy her even more.

Love Gaby x

Hi Gaby

I'd say the last really really really bad time we had constantly stopped around the 18 week mark - that was the constant screaming, however we still had severe grumpyness and flare ups until about the 21-22 week mark, then it just started to get that the amount of good days in a week were more than the bad ones.  I'd definately say at 6 months with solids seen a massive improvement, then when she started sitting up.  Nic's still on a huge dose of meds, it took for Omeprazole, Ranitidine and domperidone all to be given together to make a difference, and then Movicol to help her poop again made a huge difference.

It's honestly so bizarre being grateful for mischief xx

Hi Clare.

She's still on 16mg omeprazole, 2mls domperidone 3 times daily and 1.5ml ranitidine twice daily.  It's still a massive amount, we've tried to do it too quickly before and it went really wrong - so we're doing it slowly this time x

Hi Emma

Thank you for the response.  How's all at your end?  It's been ages since I've been here xx

so pleased for you

well done you, you should give yourself a big pat on your back for having done such a great job and help your little joy overcome this terrible illness.

xx

Hi Anna

I swear I never thought we'd get there.  I don't think I'll ever forget reflux x

Neither of us will, Lara

I have now accepted that I am depressed by reflux and started on antidepressants, as each time we get better with reflux, we go back five steps and start again with a bad spell of it. Hate it!

Good luck, enjoy your little joy now you can!

Hi Lara, yes, i agree take it very slowly... theres no rush.

Harry will be 2 in March and is still on 10mg omep (reduced from 15mg at 14 mths).  We have to try and reduce again very soon and we're dreading it.  Got him to 5mg for 3 days 5mths ago, and all hell let loose. It was so awful to see him screaming and arching, after not having any of that for over a year :(  It really worried us as we thought he was getting better!

Wishing you lots of luck with it xxx
