LittleRefluxers

Hiya Mummies and carers,
My Lo is breastfed and has been diagnosed with reflux. My niece and nephew have this so was aware of the symptoms. She was given baby gaviscon which didnt touch it so with the help of a pead was given domperidone 0.95ml x 4 and rantitdine 0.66 x 3. This helped for a short time but as she approached 4 months the reflux got worse and she was bk to projectile vomiting. Domperidone now 2ml x 4. Its really hard as she is always upset and comes on and off the breast frequently. She was born 7lb 6oz and has now just reached 12lb. She has dropped to the lower centile but the HV doesnt seem concerned. She has always been a restless sleeper and fights it all the time, cannot go anywhere in day unless i walk then she will sleep in the buggy. Currently working at getting herself to sleep in day...please tell me this gets easier. She only feeds 5-10 mins on one breast and has a lot of wind, sorry this is all jumbled. Writing whilst she is asleep. Many thanks Karina x

Hi Karina, Its good to hear that you have been given meds and all ready under a consultant. My daughter would fight sleep all the time, wriggle around and scream with pain. I was given Ranitadine which we found worked ok for a short time, however with the weight to dose it is hard to keep a close eye on the dosing of it. We were then given Omeprazole in place of it and this helped loads.. She began sleeping better in the day. (still at 19 months suffers with lots of wind) I cant pass comment on the breast feeding as my daughter had to be bottle fed. For some reason 4 months seems to be one of the worst times to highten reflux ???? (dont understand why). May be if you haven't already you could try weaning, I found solid foods helped with the sickie spit ups.
Omeprazole worked better for us once the ranitidine stopped doing what it was supposed to. I weaned at 4.5 months, this didn't help much but is supposed to because the food sits heavier in the tummy so is less likely to come up. Took me about 2 weeks of crying to get my son to sleep properly during the day. And only just got him to sleep through the night this week (he's 8 months old now). It does get better, you probably can't see that light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. Even if the reflux doesn't disappear, it gets easier when you're able to control it with the medication. It's bit of a nightmare dealing with the sick though but you just learn to live with it. My LO has been on max dosage of domperidone but still manages to be sick all the time. The carpets are a mess and I have to take a bucket upstairs when I put him to bed just in case. The last 8 months have been a struggle. He hasn't been sick for a week though... maybe he's growing out of it?? But I can now see the light... you will too. Keep up with all your hard work, you'll get there. You're not alone xx
