Hi, Lauren is taking less and less milk at the moment. She has always fought the bottle but she just doesn't want to drink anymore. She isn't in pain when she drinks but she does gag and choke a lot. She has taken to the solids really well and now at 5 1/2 months she is taking baby rice at 8am and 5pm and vegetable puree at 11:30am. She just loves the solids, but I am worried this is having a negative effect on the milk intake.

She seems much happier to be eating solid food than drinking liquids - has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Michelle
we should meet! I think your lauren is a Maxi Doppelgangere (at least as far as naps and eating go). Listen i started weaning max at the same time as you seem to have started with lauren. same thing happened. I just kind of let him led me and didn't worry too much about it as like my husband said "he gets all his milk at night". he wakes a lot at night and we can't get him back to sleep without giving him a bit of milk. Not sure if you have the same "get to sleep" crutch but thats all we have. Even rocking him doesn't work. So during the day Max was all solids and very very little milk. So much so i had to express and store it.
Having said that, now - at 6 and a half months he is off the solids and wanting the milk. Or at least i think he wants the milk. I am resisting and keeping it to 3 feeds a day and however many are necessary at night time. But day feeds are morning lunch and evening. No more. But he is nibbling at his cereal and purees and not opening his mouth properly and simply disinterested with teh solids. This was a boy that everyone was amazed at how much he wanted to eat. Now - nothing
Don't panic just yet. trust me, they change their minds and their ways so quickly. You think you have them sussed and Bam! they get you. Soon you will be panicking because she is off the solids and back on the milk. Or some other problem. Its relentless
If i were you i wold let it ride for 5 days or so and then review the whole situation. But, i think solids to begin with are like a new toy. But they soon get bored of them
Thanks guys,

I changed to a faster teat a couple of weeks ago to try to get her to take more and it had a positive effect for about a week!! Like Francesca says its relentless!!

They do sound very similar, Max and Lauren. Night sleeping is exactly the same as you - its the time when she takes all her milk and it DOES MY HEAD IN - I have tried to reverse the trend but she still wakes and demands food. It is a NIGHTMARE and the one thing that really gets me down. Particularly when my friends who are a couple of months behind me all having their babies sleeping through the night. I know I shouldn't compare them as you simply can't, but it still annoys me. Every morning I get up and say to my husband that I can't do this any more but what can you do, another day passes and we are back to dreading another night of up and down!
Hi Michelle!
Jolly went off milk and regularly does. I dont worry so much - so long as he's had a good try at it. I've tried a new milk drink from HIPP - Goodnight Milk Drink - which has added cereals in it. This is the only really big amount of milk Jolly takes in a day - and the cereals make it just heavy enough for him to keep it down and it feels his belly. He loves it! You can use it from 6mths onwards and is available from Waitrose, Boots, Tesco and Asda. £3.99 for a small tin. You give them a 6oz feed so the tin lasts a couple of weeks.
I know that Jolly is getting enough nutrients from his solids and I give him oral multivitimins as well.
