LittleRefluxers

Hi can anyone tell me if they have had problems getting their little ones to take the medication Ranitidine. Lewis has recently been prescribed it and flatly refuses to take it and ends up spitting most of it out and getting so cross and stressed. Is this normal and will iit get better?
I have noticed that alot of other babies are on a smaller dose, we are prescribed one 5ml three times a day for his first prescription (The strength of medicine in bottle is 150mg per 10 ml ).
I have been told not to mix the Ranitidine with anything to get it into him and would appreciate any help or comments on how to continue with this please....and will it get any easier!!
Thanks. Jo x

thank goodness you got it sorted! i am so pleased lewis didnt come to any harm. it scared the hell out of me when i thought they put amelia on the wrong dosage til someone explained, but then it would have been too little not too much.
fingers crossed for you and Lewis now xxx
Hi Jo,

Really glad you got it sorted. It's surprising how often this happens. A similar thing happened to us in hospital recently. Callum was having an MRI scan of his brain and needed sedating. The Dr wrote him up for what he thought was the correct dose (off the top of his head) The medicine didn't work so I asked them to check the dosage. They refused. Turns out they had given him an 18x too small an amount. I'm so so thankful it was too small and not too large. It was an unfamiliar medicine for the nurses but they didn't even think to check. The pharmacist let it pass too! If it was the other way around and he had had an 18x too large dose, he would have died. They had to fill out an incident report and we heard nothing nor got an apology.
This web site is such a god send ! So glad that you got it sorted out!
Hi there, just seen your message - so glad you have got this sorted did think this sounded really high! I don't think it's a problem to mix it with milk, we did this for a long time. Just need to add to a very small amount if milk in the bottom of the bottle - as if you add to a full bottle then your baby might not finish and got get the full dose.

Just because your baby doesn't like it now, they might learn to love it. Liam used to hate Domperidone and now try to snatch the syringe from me and shove it in his mouth as he loves it so much. He prefers it to milk which is not ideal!

Hi, thanks for all the replies over the last few days.It feels so helpful to have your support and to know we are all not on our own. Lewis has been to see the Paed today and confirmed the Ranitidine doesage to be 0.3 mls!!!! Has also put him on a milk thickner (think it begins with "c" but has to be ordered from the chemist so not got it yet) also to continue with the infant gaviscon. We are early days with the Relux as Lewis has had heart problems since birth and was always treated as a "heart" baby with everything else being second priority at that time.
I hope all of you are managing to keep strong and get through whatever your little ones throw at you (literally!) and thanks again for helping.
JO xx
