LittleRefluxers

My son Ellis has just returned home from hospital, he had the Nissen Funoplication operation on Tuesday, he has also had a gastronamy button put into his stomach, just wandering whether anyone else has any experience or advice on this?
Thanks

Hi Dympna,
Thank-you for your message, Ellis is doing brilliant it's suprising how quick they bounce back, already he is a different child so happy.. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
If your little one ends up having to have this op then please don't hesitate to contact me I will be more than happy to discuss it all with you and give any advice I can.
Thanks again
Donna
Hi I am sorry I don't have any experience of these but I was wondering what made them do the op on Ellis as I thought it was quite rare to have the op? Our Paed has mentioned it briefly but says it is a last resort if baby is failing to thrive. He is the head gastro paed at the Royal London so I think he is pretty good. Our son is a good weight and eats well but he is just sick every day so at the moment it is not an option. Also what is a gastronamy button I have not heard of this. I worry he may eventually need the op as he is now 9 months old and we haven't seen a major improvement on the sickness although the pain seems to have eased. Would appreciate hearing from you on this matter?

Regards
Tricia

PS hope Ellis makes a speedy recovery from the op
Hi Tricia,
By the time Ellis was 10 months old he had tried all the medication for reflux but none of them had any effect, also his weight has been a big issue (he wasn't even on the chart of his red book, he had dropped off the bottom). So we were told the only thing left to try was the op.
Although this was the most scariest experience of our lives it has already proved to have changed Ellis's life. 6 days on and he is a different child, he is just so happy and seems pain free. (although he is still having calpol).
The gastronamy button is called a mic.key button, this is placed into Ellis' stomach it enables us to give him extra feeds during the night by attaching a tube to his button and the other end to a feeding pump, it also helps us to wind him as children after this op are unable to wind.
At the moment things with the mic.key button seems very daunting but i think it will become easier with practice, we will also have a community nurse coming on a daily basis to help out.
If you have any questions on this just ask I will be more than happy to help where I can.

Hi Donna
So glad to hear that the operation went well and that Ellis is feeling a lot better now.
