LittleRefluxers

My little guy William will be one year old tomorrow and although much better than when he was young, still suffers a lot from silent reflux despite meds, omeprazole, domperidone, diary free and neocate etc.

We are going to try to celebrate the fact that despite all the problems we have had, and sometimes still have, he is still with us and now smiles.

Most babies grow out of this after 10 months. Is anyone out there still having a hard time with a baby who is over a year?

Thanks

T.

Hi Tracy

Our daughter Alexandra turned one today.
She's still on Neocate, dairy free diet and omeprazole. She developed a food aversion as a result of her reflux and we struggle to feed her solids. Also she's been refusing her bottle for the last 2 1/2 months so we've had to resort to dreamfeeding, feeding her mostly during the night. We think that the problem is mainly psycological so we agreed to start weaning her off the meds and see what happens. We have reduced her omeprazole from the 20 mgrs she's been taking for about 8 months to 10 mgrs and in 2 weeks time we should stop it completely.
It's the only way to know where we are with the physical side of her silent reflux.
Today was a sweet and sour celebration as we are physically and emotionally exhausted and the last couple of days have been very difficult and stressful- we don't know if she's grizzly due to teething or due to the reduction of her medication. Yet, as you say, we feel lucky and happy that she's still with us and can be a very happy and smiling baby.

Happy birthday to William!
Hope one day soon we'll all be celebrating the end of our children's suffering.
Hang in there.

Happy birthday to little Alexandra. Hope you had some nice celebrations, despite the difficult times. I have tried to contact you to see how things are going. Hope Spain was a bit of a break and change of scenery did you good. How was the appointment on 12th. The new program makes sense with regard to meds so all the best with that. We have been reducing Laurens meds. She is just on omeprezole now but with normal formula so will give that a month and then try to reduce the omeprezole. She is very grizzly at the moment and waking early and like you say difficult to pin point what the cause is - teething?

Please keep me updated as I think about you so often and can't wait to hear the day when you can tell me the reflux is all over!!

Hi and Happy birthday to William and Alexandra. Well there was no hope of Zoe growing out of it by her first birthday as she was only diagnosed at 11mths old and only put on meds as she turned 1yr old. She is now 17mths and like all your lo's she is on Omeprazole, domperidone, gaviscon and nutramigen and dairy free. She still has bad nights. They took some bloods which actually came back that she wasn't allergic to milk which i told the consultant that she reacts quite quickly to it but her total ige antibodies were absolutely sky high so she as a allergy but they don't know what so the consultant said he will ask for more blood tests as well as skin prick tests and food challenges. It is hard how the heck i haven't gone mental with lack of sleep is unbelievable, i think i just went zombiefied. It as settled down for now but i aren't speaking too soon as i know this disease is a roller coaster. Hugs to you all. Sharon x
Thanks to everyone who relied. I have been in Nottingham with my parents for some respite from my little guy. I love him to bits bt he is really hard work.

We still havent managed to celebrate his birthday as he hasnt been well enough to have other little non-refluxers over and they dont understand that we are not just messing them about for the sake of it. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes....

I think I am finding it hard because my other, not so little person was only half as badly affected and she took 18 months, we stand no chance of it being even remotely better by then with him so I dont have any false hope of life getting better.

I have been researching some experimental treatments, one of which I think offers a lot of hope, just cant find a surgeon over here to do it.

By the way, you can get the omeprazole in suspension format. It tastes awful. We have however discovered it comes in blackcurrant or rasperry flavour. Will give that a try.

Take care.

Tracy
