LittleRefluxers

Hi all,

Thank god its Friday yay!! the funny thing is before Joseph came along I used to love Fridays because it meant the weekend but now I love fridays cause it means my hubby is at home and I get some support and he does some of the night feeds as well!! whoopee..funny how life changes isnt it!!

Anyway just wanted to see if anyone else little ones feed like this?

Joseph is on gaviscon and ranitidine, some feeds he is good and will drink his feed quite quickly and easily but some feeds (more bad feeds than good unfortunately) he starts off really screaming and hungry, so he takes the bottle and has a few sucks and then the grunting and going bright red starts, he even pulls the bottle out of his mouth sometimes, why does he do this? is it because he is hurting? sometimes he takes an hour to have the feed and he does this grunting/red face constantly, in between me winding him and him being sick!

He cant be the only one, I take it this is due to the reflux?

He has recently gone onto enfamil lacto free, which he seemed to really like and he drank a 5oz bottle straight away and then wanted more! sometimes he really drinks this well and then other times he takes forever and he does the grunting/red face thing again..does any of your little ones do this as well?

Thanks for reading this!
Nicola

thanks for your replies ladies, appreciate the support
I sence sarcasum in your last post.

My DS dont grunt, not when hes eating ne ways... he does faff and fuss about taking his bottle though, hes not screaming in pain as he once was, before neocate, ranitidine and domperidone... but it still takes me ages to feed him... its strange.

Sorry I cant be of more help, but my LO drinks well some times, and other times takes ages, pulling off, moaning etc...
Hi Nicola
We have very variable feeds too - sometimes 5oz at a time and sometimes no more than 2oz at a time all day. With my lo i often wonder whether she is tring to do a poo when she starts messing and grunting mid feed, and seems like she may be straining. She doesn't go very often, which is def a contributing factor in all our problems. Feeding does seem to start her thinking about maybe needing to go. Just a thought.
Good luck
Nicky
Hi,

Im sorry about being sarcastic, I didnt mean to be rude, I was having a bad day and seeing everyone else get replied to and it just annoyed me thats all, but that doesnt excuse me being sarcastic though, so i really am sorry..

thanks Erika and Nicky, its good to see that yours are the same..sometimes he grunts, others he doesnt, he did become really constipated for a while, which I presume is the gaviscon and im waiting for the prescription for lactulose to be done, but last night he started pooing normally again and has been 3 times since then but we changed him to enfamil lacto free last wednesday so maybe that is catching up with him..

I hate it when he grunts really hard because he gives himself a sore throat..

Anyway thanks again and im really sorry ( I know if it was me reading it, I would doubt me being able to teach my son any manners at all!)

DW. We all know whats its like to have a fluxer...!!

Sounds like your LO could have been abit constipated from the milk change, it can take two weeks for changes like that to get thru babys system and sort themselves out.

My DS was on lactulose for a while, worked wonders, though I had to up the dose from 2.5 2x day to 5ml 2x day that was when he was 6weeks old. Then it worked!!
thanks Emily and Erika, funny you should say about him being constipated, he was a few days ago, all he would pass was a round hard ball of poo! and I asked the Dr for lactulose to give him and then yesterday and today he is back to normal smelly disgusting nappies! I actually cheered and got very excited, its very sad being a mum isnt it! at least I now have the lactulose for next time..

He is having a good day today thank god, the feed early this morning, he wasnt sick at all, I couldnt believe it, I cant remember the last time he wasnt sick with a feed but this one at dinner time he was sick everywhere but he didnt scream or grunt and he took his bottle quite easily, still took an hour to have 6oz's though, which the Drs and my H/V say is too long and actually even the pharmacist yesterday said that that was too long, but what with the constant burping and being sick it does take ages, is that too long do you think?
He started on Enfamil Lacto Free last week, he started off being a little constipated but I put that down to the gaviscon and asked the gp for lactulose, I didnt even think about the new formula but over the last few days, he has gone a lot, not every nappy change but quite a few of them and now im worried that he wont be absorbing all the nutrients he needs from the feed, it does'nt look like diarrheoa though, not watery or anything just very yucky and smelly!
