LittleRefluxers

Hi,
I was wondering how many of you may have tried Cranial massage? Luke has just had his 3rd treatment and I have to say that whilst it is a little to early to yell 'It's a miracle!' he does seem to have improved since starting the treatments. He is now putting on weight really well and though he is still sick lots and has bouts of screaming with pain they do seem to be lessening in their intensity and length! Still lots of wind but it seems to be less painful for him to pass. His tummy sounds are not so loud either. He seems to be enjoying the actual treatments. He still isn't floppy and relaxed like a 'non reflux baby' but as I say we are having some good days, even had a good night Thursday! If anyone is interested I could relay what the Osteopath explained to me as to the cause of all this pain and sickness.

I find one of the most distressing things is when Luke finds is hard just to swallow his own saliva, it's pretty scary eh! That high pitch scream, the fists and his rigidity is horrible. I too feel like people are thinking I am exaggerating. I guess they are pretty lucky to be able to think it!

I am so grateful to this site it has helped us already! It has made me realise that Luke isn't as bad as some of these little babies who tear at my heart, but who also make me realise how lucky we are not to be worse!!
Julie x

PS This made me laugh, Luke like all refluxers wants to suck, my mum gave him a soother (softer than a dummy) by Tomme Tippee. People did the frown thing but it turns out that it was the best thing, as sucking a dummy makes more saliva which helps to neutralise the acid!!!! See dummies are not always a bad thing eh!! x

Hi Julie

Yes, I would be interested in knowing what the Osteopath said as to the cause of pain and sickness (I left you a mesage on your page about Cranial Osteopath). I am wondering if it would help Fraya. Who suggesting going to you? A paed or did you just go off your own back?
Thanks
I took ethan to see a C.O first when he was a few weeks old as he seemed quite distressed when he was awake and struggled to feed and was always quite windy etc and he has a big head (98th %-ile which resulted in quite a few stiches for me) and so all the stuff I had read about COs suggested they could help with birth trauma. So even though Ethan came out normally, I thought it might be worth a try - I tihnk we had 3 sessions and he seemed to improve.

Anyway I took Ethan again a month or so ago after he was formally diagnosed with reflux at 12mth - he's now almsot 14mths. and the CO was lovely - she explained about tension in his neck being a sign of stomach problems & sickness (could it be cos he has to carry this big head around all the time?!!) and she did her stuff and he has seemed better again - the main reason I took him was that his reflux had caused a cough which disturbed his sleep and he is sleeping through the night again. he woudl wake up around 2 am, screaming & in apparent pain (acid?) and then took about 2 hours and lots of calpol & milk to go back to sleep.

Whether it was the drugs prescribed by the paed or the CO I don't know, but my feeling is that the drugs worked on the symptoms, but the CO was tackling the cause

hope this helps

when harrison was born i was advised to see a co because he was suctioned out (ventouse) but i never gave it a second thought...how do i see one? is a private thing and expensive?

we paid about £30 for half an hour - you can possibly do it on BUPA, it dpends on GP/consultant referring you and your BUPA scheme

I found mine (we saw different ones) through vairious means - google, NCT mag advert, friends recommmendation and just the CO at the Alternative health centre I go to.

Hope this helps

Maxi saw a CO from about 3-4 weeks old and then on a regular basis. I can honestly say that it helped considerably. i am not sure if it helped with the reflux but it certainly helped with the colic (helping him to pass wind more easily. Basically he always seemed to be in pain with any burp or fart and at times it seemed like he was unable to burp or fart). Looking back, i think Max has both colic and reflux at the very beginning and i think that although the two interweave and one gets referred to as the other from time to time, if we get all mediacally professional for a moment, i would say that the CO helped with the colc t not with the reflux. he still couldn't lie on his back, you could see he still had acid coming up with all his pained faces etc etc (so the reflux was still there) BUT he could fart like a trooper after a session with teh CO and he could burp after a feed and he was generally more relaxed and would sleep better. This would all last about 3 days and then would go back to how it was so we were taking him weekly to begin with
She said that he had slightly twisted diaphragm and this was causing him problems.
