Hi Danielle,

You are not supposed to dissolve until the balls are purple. You are supposed to give when it's dissolved after about 5-10 mins. The losec are rubbish. Are you trying to give part of a tablet? It's a nightmare! The purple bits are the medicine but it's impossible to measure out 1/2 or whatever of the balls. As you know they are creamy colour at first, this is when they need administering. The only way to use Losec Mups successfully is to give a whole tablet or 2 tablets etc. and mix with baby food. The balls don't fit into a syringe properly and block it up.

Ask for Omperazole suspension. Apparently it's £150 for 28 days supply but they should provide it if babs needs it.

Good luck and I understand your frustrations!

Hi Danielle etc.

I have some hot tips for both of you! Yes, as Jennifer said, you should be administering the balls when they are still white. Dissolve the tablet in a small medicine cap (I found this the best way, so there is less surface area for the balls to stick too). Use a spoon to stir it a bit and help it dissolve. It should take 5 mins tops. Then if you use a syringe the only one that will work is NUROFEN for children syringe. You will see what I mean if you go and buy one. Buy Nurofen for children - it comes with a five mls syringe which is really good for administering losec. You suck it up then tip the syringe up and down as you are squirting it in (in between squirts).

I actually find that Stella will drink out of the cup. My husband discovered this and found it easier than the syringe. She is six months old. So she drinks it out of the tiny medicine cup. Apparently when babies are established on food you can switch to the capsules which you empty on to fruit puree and shovel in.

You do know that you should wait 20 mins before giving milk after losec to help it work. Also you can wash it down with a bit of water to help its effect. I have to give it twice a day to STella. The second one has to be at least an hour and a half after milk because milk interferes with its efficacy.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

Thanks for the tips. Just to let you know our consultant has told us to avoid the suspension as their pharmacist at the hospital is concerned about its stability. So we use the tablets too.

We have a special tablet cutter (very sharp blade) so we can use a half tablet at night which is easy to use. The hospital gave this to us, so you could try asking for one of these if you need to do half tablets.

Hope that's helpful,

Rebecca
